Top 3 Emerging Artists to Watch: January 2022

Top 3 Emerging Artists to Watch: January 2022

Not to be a fan-girl but these recent graduates have been on my radar for a while now, and if you’re savvy then they should be on yours too. Let me show you why.

1. Calliope

Calliope is an Athens born artist and a recent graduate from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Calliope brings both light and warmth, reminiscent of her Greek upbringing, to dark and semi-surrealist subjects. Her works are immediately eye-catching and warming to your skin, but there is more to meets the eye than the comforting pastels.

2. Anna Rocke

For our second spotlight I’m taking you somewhere a bit cooler, and by that I mean for its climate and colour,(certainly not for its hipster coffee shops). In Edinburgh, Anna Rocke, a recent graduate is currently represented by the Arusha Gallery. Her ominous and viscous paintings are reminiscent of Van Gogh’s impasto and Rothko’s intensity of colour. These luscious oil paintings on wood panel are miniature in size, but are uniquely rich in their depth and colour… (and someday are going to make her very rich too).

3. Rosie Howdle

London-based Royal College of Art student, Rosie’s paintings are large in scale, and large in life! These are not for the fainthearted! Rosie is primarily a painter, however works in other mediums, including sculpture, such as a plastic egg cup made from real human teeth… Project whatever you like onto these vivacious paintings, I can tell you now that you probably won’t be right. Is this the next Lee Krasner?
